MMO Training Course
Ocean Watch's JNCC accredited MMO course equips delegates with the knowledge and confidence to work as MMO offshore. During the course, delegates will gain a basic understanding on underwater acoustics and will then dive into the world of marine mammals. With that understanding, delegates will then learn how underwater noise impacts marine mammals. The next section of the course will discuss the legislation and the mitigation guidelines that is widely used in UK projects to mitigate for the potential impacts of underwater noise to marine mammals.

Further to this, we will look at the role of the MMO and the PAM operator, from surveying, communication and reporting to general life onboard, key identification features of marine mammals found in UK waters. The next module will focus on MMO data collection and reporting where the class room session will finish off with an introduction into passive acoustic monitoring (PAM).

The afternoon on the second day if feasible will be spent out at sea along the Cornish coast putting those skills learnt in the classroom to practical use.

As well as the delivery of presentations, expect fun quizzes, exams and group discussions.
